Day 48

I just returned home from my trip to the Yukon Territories. It was one of the best journeys of my entire life. I now have hundreds of pictures to sift through and edit. What an adventure. I highly recommend that everyone takes a trip way up North. Whitehorse is filled with good people, with great senses of humour. The weather was cold (I went to Whitehorse in February - its going to be chilly), the average temperature was about -20 but it was crisp and invigorating. The cold kept me awake as we stayed up all hours photographing the Aurora. Now, I am sitting at work and the snow is falling heavily in Calgary.  I am already missing the serenity of the Sundog Retreat, and the beautiful light of the Yukon skies.

Day 49 - Chasing the Aurora

I remember the first time I saw the Aurora Borealis.  I was about 16 years old, I was with my high school sweetheart, and seeing the Northern Lights for the first time took my breath away.  The sky was dancing with electric colour.  Ever since then I've always found the Aurora Borealis enchanting.  Most recently we have been enduring a long, very cold winter.  The best part about it is the crisp clear skies, which present some great opportunities for picture taking.  My recent explorations in photography have completely shifted at how I look at Winter. I'm spending my days wishing I could be outside in the cold with my Husky & my camera when everyone else wants to stay inside. In mid-January I spent a night driving around the Alberta countryside (in the beginner Neil Zeller Photography workshop) chasing the Northern Lights. Only something so beautiful could keep me outside for hours in -20 temperatures.  These photos are from my very first night chasing the Aurora.

Day 50

What a difference a day makes. I just finished a 2 day photography workshop by Neil Zeller, and I feel SO inspired. My computer is loaded up with files to be edited, but I thought I'd post one just for fun.  This seems like a good place to start.  This photo was taken just off the Smith Dorrien Trail, the sun was shining on us brilliantly. It was a good day to be playing in the snow.

Day 51

Happy New Year!  I am very early on my photographic journey.  At this point, I refer to it as my very expensive hobby, but I do love it. I thought I'd share some photos I snapped on my lunch hour.

Day 52. Nerds Rock.

Dev + Roxy at Nerd Roller Skates are dream clients.  They eat, breathe, and sleep their brand because Roller Skating/Derby is their passion, and Nerd is their calling. I remember when Roxy started this business on a dream and a credit card.  Four years later, they are one of Canada's top selling Roller Skate Shops and distributor of Moxy Roller Skates.

The design for this billboard was literally a napkin sketch done at Swann's in Inglewood, over a glass of wine. Such an amazing client to collaborate with!

Nerd Billboard, getting pics of billboards is difficult. Sorry about the distortion.

Day 53.

Feeling happy. I was flipping through Business in Calgary magazine and noticed that I had two ads printed in the same issue. I still get excited every time I see my work hit the press.

Day 54 - A Big Deal

Ok. The title of this post is a play on words,  but it was really exciting to see my first billboard up there and larger than life. I am truly grateful to be working in this studio and with my current creative director. We have our moments but I am being pushed to execute work that is both technically and creatively sound, and do so at a rapid pace. It doesn't hurt that the client is also very creative and welcomes us pushing boundaries.

I have also created some other fun assets for this production. Google Ads & Youtube videos.

It should be noted that I did not film these videos, I edited footage that was supplied by the client and added the music, titles, and captions.

The first Youtube video I did for the Alberta Ballet was for dracula and has hit more than 10,000 views.

My painting a day project isn't going so well but I have been busy designing. Very much enjoying the process.

Day 56 -LOVE Revolution

My friends and colleagues, my 100 days project is evolving constantly. This is a historic moment. I believe it is time to start a LOVE revolution. As a parent, for the next 4 years I need to be conscious of the media around my child, it is my responsibility to raise a smarter future. I need to teach him to choose love over fear. As an artist and designer I need to let my dissent fuel my creativity. I refuse to perpetuate fear. Let's flood our social media with love. There is also a lesson in this, the next time we are asked to vote in an election, do your part. This proves the danger of voter apathy. Finally, it's going to be ok. We have survived crazy presidents in the past and we will get through this one too. #loverevolution

Day 65

I've been accepted into a group of amazing hand letter artists called the Lettering League. I feel honoured some of these artists are so incredibly talented. It is going to be a wonderful opportunity to learn. Here is the first assignment I had to turn #lettering league into a design.
