I was working on a sun study today, when I became inspired by change. The beauty of the change between the anchors of things that we consider permanent. I love the variety of the shadow lengths and how they change throughout the year, even change is inconsistent.
Dev + Roxy at Nerd Roller Skates are dream clients. They eat, breathe, and sleep their brand because Roller Skating/Derby is their passion, and Nerd is their calling. I remember when Roxy started this business on a dream and a credit card. Four years later, they are one of Canada's top selling Roller Skate Shops and distributor of Moxy Roller Skates.
The design for this billboard was literally a napkin sketch done at Swann's in Inglewood, over a glass of wine. Such an amazing client to collaborate with!
Feeling happy. I was flipping through Business in Calgary magazine and noticed that I had two ads printed in the same issue. I still get excited every time I see my work hit the press.
Ok. The title of this post is a play on words, but it was really exciting to see my first billboard up there and larger than life. I am truly grateful to be working in this studio and with my current creative director. We have our moments but I am being pushed to execute work that is both technically and creatively sound, and do so at a rapid pace. It doesn't hurt that the client is also very creative and welcomes us pushing boundaries.
I have also created some other fun assets for this production. Google Ads & Youtube videos.
Trockadero Google Ads
It should be noted that I did not film these videos, I edited footage that was supplied by the client and added the music, titles, and captions.
The first Youtube video I did for the Alberta Ballet was for dracula and has hit more than 10,000 views.
My painting a day project isn't going so well but I have been busy designing. Very much enjoying the process.
Made some art. Playing around with GIFs. it is not perfect but it sure was fun. Oh the possibilities!
My friends and colleagues, my 100 days project is evolving constantly. This is a historic moment. I believe it is time to start a LOVE revolution. As a parent, for the next 4 years I need to be conscious of the media around my child, it is my responsibility to raise a smarter future. I need to teach him to choose love over fear. As an artist and designer I need to let my dissent fuel my creativity. I refuse to perpetuate fear. Let's flood our social media with love. There is also a lesson in this, the next time we are asked to vote in an election, do your part. This proves the danger of voter apathy. Finally, it's going to be ok. We have survived crazy presidents in the past and we will get through this one too. #loverevolution
I love working in video! I still have a lot to learn, but I'm honoured to have edited & put this one together for the Alberta Ballet. I had a blast working on this project.
I'm a little late posting this one. But it was a quick sketch I whipped up for a t-shirt design
Fun, quick creative project that I whipped up for a friend & she paid me in home made canned goods. swoon! I'm including it in my 100 days project, because I had so much fun.
Today marks a milestone for me, and a brand new horizon. After 5 incredible years with GEC, I'm moving on to an exciting new opportunity at Frank Design Strategy. I am so grateful to GEC, they have stood beside me through some of the happiest and most difficult days of my life. I've made friends here that I know I will keep for a lifetime. I'm going to miss this crew, but I can't wait to face the challenges of my new position. Constant and Never Ending Improvement, words that I live by. Time for me to grow. Thank you GEC!
Ok I know, this is kind of cheating... I didn't draw these today. But I've been doing a ton of work on the computer lately & I found these in an old folder. I thought since we just entered Spring I'll put these lovely goddesses up.
I made my love a promise a long time ago, if he brought me flowers I'd always do a sketch/painting of them. Still going strong. Happy Love Day.
A doodle while sitting at the pub playing Name that Tune. I should have paid more attention to the 80s.
This was the second assignment from the lettering league. The task was to hand letter the name of your home town.
I've been accepted into a group of amazing hand letter artists called the Lettering League. I feel honoured some of these artists are so incredibly talented. It is going to be a wonderful opportunity to learn. Here is the first assignment I had to turn #lettering league into a design.
Ink on paper
Lunch time sketch. inspired by Lauren Toyota. It was a great reminder.

Adobe CC is revolutionary. My first sketch in Adobe Draw done on my iPhone. I think I'm in love.
Getting rid of a bunch of old stuff that I don't use anymore. I love empty space.
